NNPP set to summon members to emergency meeting

-

The leadership of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) in Kano State is set to summon an emergency meeting to address the massive defection that has hit the party.

The chairman of the Kano State Chapter of the party, Masud Doguwa said the the NNPP will convene a meeting following the defection of key members of the party.

Doguwa, the leader of the “basket and full of fruits” faction of the NNPP said the party leadership is not surprised over the exodus of members to the ruling party.

He, however, blamed a former governor of Kano State, Rabiu Kwankwaso and his supporters popularly referred to as the Kwankwasiyya group for pushing prominent members of the NNPP away.

Doguwa said, “When I took over as chairman, I made efforts to bring everyone on board. But the Kwankwasiyya group refused to cooperate and recognize my leadership, making it difficult to move the party forward.”

In addition, Doguwa said some members of the NNPP are leaving for lack of a justice system which protects all within the party.

“However, myself and other stakeholders will soon call an emergency meeting to deliberate on the situation and take a clear position. The NNPP is a credible and independent political platform. We are not in any negotiation with other parties,” Doguwa added.
