Taiwanese actress and singer Barbie Hsu, renowned for her role in the 2001 television drama Meteor Garden, has tragically passed away at the age of 48.
Her sister, Dee Hsu, confirmed that Barbie succumbed to pneumonia after contracting influenza during a family trip to Japan over the Lunar New Year holiday.
She was born Xu Xiyuan on October 6, 1976, in Taipei, Taiwan.
She was a renowned Taiwanese actress, singer, and television host.
She gained widespread fame for her portrayal of Shancai in the 2001 television drama Meteor Garden, a role that catapulted her to stardom across Asia.
Hsu began her entertainment career at 17 as part of the pop duo S.O.S with her sister, Dee Hsu.
The duo later transitioned into television hosting, further expanding their influence in the Taiwanese entertainment industry.
In 2022, Hsu married South Korean singer and DJ Koo Jun-yup, and she is survived by him and their two children.
